What it does

Long Momentum trades long-only on Wall Street (DFB), 1-hour timeframe. It enters when a fast moving average crosses above a slow one, but only when price is confirmed above the Ichimoku cloud — filtering out crossovers that occur into overhead resistance, which historically accounted for a meaningful share of losing trades.

The exit is a two-stage scale-out. Half the position is banked at a volatility-scaled target, and the remainder runs until the trend reverses. This captures extended moves while removing risk from the table early.

Position sizing scales automatically with account equity, stepping up as the account grows and back down after drawdowns.

Backtest performance

Wall Street (DFB), 1 hour, 2 August 2010 to 20 July 2026, starting capital £1,000:

Metric Value
Total gain £126,291
CAGR 35.38%
Maximum drawdown 15.03%
Gain/loss ratio 3.09
Winning trades 44.58%
Total trades 240
Average gain per trade £526

What to expect. This is a trend system with a near-coin-flip win rate. It makes its returns from a minority of large winners, so individual losses are frequent and normal. The 15% maximum drawdown is structural to the edge rather than a flaw to be engineered away — several approaches to reducing it were tested and rejected because they removed more return than risk. At around 15 trades per year it is a patient system, not an active one.

What’s included

Complete strategy, ready to run in ProOrder. Entry, exit and sizing logic are fully implemented; no configuration is required beyond the setup steps below.

Setup — please read before running

  1. Set startCapital to your actual account balance. Position size scales with equity, so leaving this at the default on a larger account will trade at the wrong size.
  2. Set Max position to at least 7.0 in the ProOrder activation dialog. Sizing scales to 6.5 contracts as the account grows; a lower cap will cause orders to be rejected once you reach that level.
  3. Run on a dedicated sub-account. Running multiple equity-scaled strategies on one account will distort the sizing of all of them.
  4. Recommended backtest spread setting: 3.5 points

Requirements

ProRealTime with ProOrder and a broker account supporting Wall Street (DFB) at a minimum stake of 0.1 per point. Tested live on IG.

Risk

Trading leveraged instruments carries risk of loss exceeding your deposit. Backtest results are simulated on historical data and are not a reliable indicator of future performance. Live results will differ due to slippage, spread variation and execution timing. Only trade with capital you can afford to lose.
